Pathfinder Download and Installation

Important Note

The DXLab Launcher automates the process of downloading and installing DXLab applications like Pathfinder

If you prefer to manually download and install DXKeeper, follow this process:

Step Directions
1 Create the application folder in which Pathfinder will reside, such as:

C:\DXLab\Pathfinder

If you choose a folder within C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) on  Windows 7 or Vista,

  • If your PC is running Windows 7, login to an account with Administrator privileges to install or run DXLab applications
  • If your PC is running Vista, login to the account named Administrator  to install or run DXLab applications

2 In the application folder, create an installation subfolder in which the downloaded and extracted files will reside, such as:

C:\DXLab\Pathfinder\Install

3 In the application folder, create a subfolder named Searches ; if the application folder you created in step 1 was

 C:\DXLab\Pathfinder

then create C:\DXLab\Pathfinder\Searches

4 Click here to download Pathfinder439Archive.exe, a 1.6MB self-extracting executable file that contains Pathfinder and the files it uses. When prompted, direct your browser to store this file into the installation subfolder you created in step 2.

5 Run Pathfinder439Archive.exe - in its WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box, direct it to place the unzipped files into the installation subfolder you created in step 2, and click the Unzip button. After extraction completes, click the Close button. There should now be five files in the installation subfolder:
  • Pathfinder439Archive.exe
  • Pathfi1.cab
  • Pathfi2.cab
  • setup.exe
  • Setup.lst

6 To install Pathfinder, run the setup.exe program in the installation subfolder. Before clicking the Install button, verify that the target Directory designates the application folder you created in step 1; if not, click the Change Directory button and select the correct application folder, and then click the Install button.

After copying several system files, the setup program may ask that you reboot your PC before continuing with the setup. If, after rebooting, your PC does not run setup.exe on its own, direct it to do so.

The setup program may report that the files being installed are older than files already installed on your system, and ask whether you want to over-write the existing newer files with the older files -- you should decline.

Otherwise, click here  to download SearchLib.exe , a self-extracting executable file that contains an up-to-date set of search files. When prompted, save SearchLib.exe into the installation subfolder you created in step 2.

8 Run SearchLib.exe - in its WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box, direct it to place the unzipped files into the Searches subfolder you created in step 3, and click the Unzip button. After extraction completes, click the Close button.

9 After Pathfinder is installed and you've verified that it works, you may delete the installation subfolder and the files it contains
10 Check http://www.dxlabsuite.com/download.htm for access to the most recent Incremental Release

Pathfinder utilizes Internet Explorer's LAN settings to access the Internet. If your network topology requires access via a proxy server, configure Internet Explorer appropriately. If Internet Explorer can access Internet, then Pathfinder will be able to access the Internet.

You can uninstall Pathfinder by running the Add/Remove Programs applet on the Windows control panel.

If you have questions or suggestions, please send them via email to the DXLab reflector.
