Error While Registering msjtes40.dll
On some Windows 11 systems, attempting to install a DXLab application produces this error message:
An error occurred while registering the file C:\Windows\System32\msjtes40.dll
This is the result of a defect in Windows: msjtes40.dll should be installed in C:\Windows\SysWOW64, not in C:\Windows\System32 . Furthermore, the version of msjtes40.dll present in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 may not be correct.
Despite the error message during installation, a working version of msjtes40.dll may already be successfully installed in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 - if the application runs without indicating the presence of an errorlog.txt file in its Main window's title bar, then all is well.
If the application creates an errorlog or displays an error message, first determine if a correct version of the file msjtes40.dll is present in C:\Windows\SysWOW64
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64
- If the file msjtes40.dll is not present in this folder, then proceed with Recovery Step 3 below
Click on the entry for msjtes40.dll, then right-click this entry, and select Properties from the popup menu
In the msjtes40.dll Properties window, select the Details tab
If the Product version is 4.0.9502 or 4.00.9801.0 , then proceed with Recovery Step 4 below
If the Product version is 10.0.26100.6899,
- try proceeding with Recovery Step 4 below
- if Step 5 results in an error message, then revert to Step 1
- Otherwise, proceed with Recovery Step 1 below
Recovery Steps

Take ownership of the existing file msjtes40.dll and grant full control to your administrator username, or to Administrators
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64
Right-click on the entry for msjtes40.dll and select Properties from the popup menu
In the msjtes40.dll Properties window, select the Security tab and click the Edit button in its lower-right corner
In the Permissions for msjtes40.dll window,
Select the entry for Users, and check Full control in the Allow column
Select the entry for Administrator, and check Full control in the Allow column
Click the Apply Changes button
- in the C:\windows\SysWOW64 folder, delete the existing file msjtes40.dll
download http://www.dxlabsuite.com/msjtes40.zip and extract the file msjtes40.dll it contains into C:\Windows\SysWOW64
- Direct Windows to open a Command window with administrative privileges
press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC to open the Windows Task Manager
click on the Task Manager's Run new task button
check the Create this task with administrative privileges box
in the Open: textbox, type CMD.exe and then click the OK button.
- In the Command window that appears, type this command and then strike the Enter key:
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msjtes40.dll
