Installing DXLab Applications on Microsoft Windows NT or XP
There are no special considerations involved in running DXLab applications on either Windows NT or 32-bit Windows XP or 64-bit Windows XP. However,
these operating systems do not support Internet Explorer version 11, the presence of which DXKeeper requires in order to interact with LoTW in the wake of the ARRL's website security upgrade of 2018-10-15.
- neither Windows NT nor Windows XP are under active Microsoft support, which means that security vulnerabilities are not being corrected.
PCs running NT or XP and connected to the internet are at high risk of being incorporated into botnets by criminals, and used to convey spam, conduct denial-of-service attacks, conduct phishing attacks, and propagate ransomware. Thus PCs running Windows NT or XP should either be upgraded to a version of Windows under active Microsoft support; this will limit access by criminals, and enable DXKeeper to interact with LoTW. If you can't upgrade, disconnect the PC from the internet.
