Sorting QSOs

Quick Sorting

To sort the QSOs shown in the Log Page Display in ascending order of start time, click the UTC button in the Sort panel in the bottom-left corner of the Main window's Log QSOs tab.

To sort the QSOs shown in the Log Page Display in ascending callsign order, click the Call button in the Sort panel in the bottom-left corner of the Main window's Log QSOs tab.

Comprehensive Sorting

There are two primary ways to sort the Log Page Display:

  1. by clicking the UTC, Call, or USer button in the Sort panel in the lower-left corner of the Main window's Log QSOs tab

  2. by double-clicking a column caption (heading) in the Log Page Display

The first time you double-click a column caption, the Spot Database Display will be sorted in ascending order of the column whose caption you clicked. If you double-click the Frequency column caption, for example, the Log Page Display will be sorted in ascending order of Frequency. If you double-click the same column caption a second time, the Log Page display will be sorted in descending order of the column whose caption you clicked.

Note that when you sort the Log Page Display by double-clicking a column caption, all three buttons will be cleared in the Sort panel in the lower-left corner of the Main window's Log QSOs tab, and the Sort panel will display the caption of the column by which the Log Page Display has been sorted. If the Log Page Display has been sorted in descending order of a column (because you double-clicked hat column's caption twice), the Sort panel will display the caption of the column by which the Log Page Display is sorted, followed by the word desc to remind you that the Log Page Display is sorted in descending order of the column you selected by double-clicking.

Quickly sorting the Log Page Display in ascending order of QSO Begin or Call is easy click the Sort panel's UTC or Call button, respectively. The Chronlogical Sort Order panel on the Configuration window's Log tab controls whether clicking the Sort panel's UTC button puts the most recent QSOs at the top or the bottom of the Log Page Display.

To sort the Log Page Display by a column that is not currently visible in the Log Page Display, or to perform a multi-item sort like "sort the Log Page in increasing order of Callsign, and then in decreasing order of frequency, and then in increasing order of Mode", use the Advanced Sort panel at the top of the Advanced Sorts, Filters, and Modifiers window; to display this window, click the Adv button on the Main window's Log QSOs tab.

The Advanced Sort panel lets you define up to four SQL sort expressions, and choose one of them to sort the Log Page Display. An SQL Sort expression is a comma-separated list of items names, e.g.

CALL, QSO_BEGIN

Sorting by the above SQL Sort would first filter the Log Page Display by ascending order of Callsign, and then by ascending order of QSO date and time. Thus QSOs with callsigns you've worked more than once would appear in ascending order of date and time. You can also specify descending sort orders, e.g.

CALL desc, QSO_BEGIN

To sort the Log Page Display by any SQL Sort expression, specify that expression in one of the Advanced Sort panel's four text boxes, click the Select button to the right of the textbox in which you entered the SQL Sort expression, and click the Sort panel's User button (in the lower-left corner of the Main window's Log QSOs tab).
