Disabling Cortana
On versions of Windows 10 prior to 1511 (OS Build 10586.0), a defect in Microsoft's Cortana personal assistant causes DXLab applications to run slowly and prevents them from interoperating. You can avoid this by disabling Cortana and then restarting Windows 10:
- start Cortana
open the Start Menu by clicking the Windows Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen
in the Start Menu window that appears, click the All Apps icon
in the list of applications that appears along the left side of the window, click the entry for Cortana
in the Start typing to search for apps, files, and settings window, click the gear-shaped settings icon along the left side of the window; Cortana's Settings window will appear.
in Cortana's Settings window, set the Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts, and more slider to the Off position (to the left)
- terminate and restart Windows 10 or Windows 11
